Farmington silverplate pattern by universal was introduced in 1917. The Universal mark was used by Landers, Frary, and Clark in New Britain Connecticut for almost one hundred years until 1950. The Farmington pattern as well as others in their collection are named after towns in Connecticut. Farmington is a small town in the Farmington river valley. The Universal silver-plate products were very well made, I would say better made than their counterparts of the day. The silverware pattern exemplifies the simple design that represented the upper middle class of that period. Farmington still blends in well with classic dining décor.
Farmington Connecticut, established in 1640, is a wonderful old New England town that features homes from as far back as the late 1600's. I have traveled through this area thousands of times. If you get the opportunity to visit, it will be worth your time and effort.
